In summary, undrilled skylark plots maintained the mosaic of bare ground and vegetation cover that is most beneficial to skylarks for foraging, whereas sprayed plots tended to be very clean, especially February sprayed plots. Recommendation is to create plots as undrilled patches where possible, but if using spraying then no later than December in line with current ELS guidelines.
