I was thinking there must be a lot of suitable habitat somewhere to produce so many buttrflies. Does anyone know where most of these buttrflies emerge from - french farmland, the Alps, further afield??    Report

10 Jun 2009, 2:55 PM Gallinago Joined on 15 Dec 2008 Posts 15 Re: Painted ladies The butterflies are originating from about 1000 miles away in the Atlas Mountains of North Africa, where it is reported that heavy winter rains allowed good germination of the caterpillars food plants.
